For New Members
Speaking of Anglicanism
Each year we come together on a number of
occasions to speak about Anglicanism and our expression of it – the Episcopal Church USA.
This series of 4 sessions is meant for anyone who is interested. Certainly for newcomers
this is a chance to learn more and ask questions about our tradition.
For those who have been around the Episcopal Church longer it is a chance for a refresher
and to ask any long held questions you might have.
The Membership Committee sponsors this series and the Rector and Parish Intern will
be involved in presenting and recruiting others to present the sessions.
Each session will be offered twice - once on a Sunday following coffee hour and the second
time the following Sunday evening, in order to involve as many people as possible.
The series is as follows:
Session 1: Anglican Structures for Mission and Ministry
This session will cover Anglican structures of mission at the global, national,
diocesan and parish level. Members of the Vestry will be on hand to discuss the various
facets of our parish mission and ministry.
Session 2: History of Anglicanism
This session will set Anglican History within the broader history of Christianity and then look at the origins of Anglicanism, and the high points of our history.
Session 3: Anglican Theology
This session will focus on the three legged stool of Anglican Theology – scripture, tradition and reason. We will then have time to discuss how those three legs interact with regard to several specific theological topics.
Session 4: Prayer Book / Hymnal 101
This session will be a hands-on tour of the BCP,
hymnals and alternative liturgical texts of the Episcopal Church and wider
Anglican Communion.
